Aspen Trees Audio Stories
Venue: Aspen Heritage Center
Location: Aspen, Colorado, USA
Date: Sept, 2001
Client: Lord Cultural Resources
Contributors: Mystus (active components, graphics,
installation), Lord (housing, coordination)
Client Requirements, Visitor Experience:
Integrated into the themed structures in one of the galleries
is an audio experience that has bird sounds emanating
from four Aspen trees. When the visitor touches a tree
a story by a famous Aspen personality is heard.
Mystus Expertise:
Mystus used microprocessor technology to coordinate the
activities of a CD audio player according to the state
of the capacitive sensors embedded in the trees. Mystus
recorded and edited the audio stories using professional
voice talent, and sourced the bird sounds.
Unique Features:
The capacitive sensors are an uncommon interaction device
and require very astute design and handling for a successful
installation.
*Project Challenges:
Installing the exhibit in a remote location in limited
time.
