Exhibit:
"Ambient Audio Installation"
Venue: "Gentle Step" Show, Bata Shoe Museum
Location: Toronto, Canada
Date: May, 1994
Client: MC Squared Design
Contributors: Mystus Interactus
Client's Requirements:
The "Gentle Shop" Hall at the Bata Shoe Museum is a
showcase of 19th century shoes. Two ambient audio installations
were created to flood the hall with period music in response to
visitor movement.
Fulfillment by Mystus:
High quality sound at low cost was achieved using portable CD
players and sophisticated "patch" electronics. Miniature
computers acted on the input from motion detectors to control
the playback and sequence of the CD's. A custom printed circuit
board was designed and produced for the electronics thus facilitating
maintenance with a quick swap of spare boards.
Interesting Features:
The music brought an incredible sense of life to the hall. The
"Gentle Step" was a landmark exhibit for the museum,
and internationally in the atmosphere/environmental genre.
