Exhibit:
"Audio Kiosk"
Venue: "Gentle Step" Show, Bata Shoe
Museum
Location: Toronto, Canada
Date: May, 1994
Client: MC Squared Design
Contributors: Mystus Interactus
Client's Requirements:
An interactive audio kiosk was created for the "Gentle
Step was to highlight some of the notions about shoes
in the 19th century, somewhat comical to us now.
Fulfillment by Mystus:
High quality sound at low cost was achieved using portable
CD players and sophisticated "patch" electronics.
Miniature computers acted on the input from infrared sensors
to control the playback and sequencing of the CD's. An
original audio CD was custom produced for the exhibit.
This included recording, several stages of mixing, mastering
and pressing. Custom earphones were designed with the
look of 19th century telephone earpieces. Special emphasis
was placed on the maintainability of these due to their
heavy use.
Interesting Features:
The audio kiosk seemed to say "Come and try me."
and visitors gravitated towards it - very popular. The
"Gentle Step" was a landmark exhibit for the
museum, and internationally in the atmospheric/environmental
genre.
