Exhibit:
Kinescopes
Venue: Bata Shoe Museum, Dance Exhibition
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Date: May, 1997
Client: Bata Shoe Museum
Contributors: Mystus Interactus, MC Squared Design
(graphics), Erasmus Hill Design (woodwork)
Client Requirements:
Mystus Interactus was contracted to develop and fabricate
seven large zoetropes. This client request was significant
because although there are zoetropes in many science museums
around the world, large ones are virtually non-existent.
A zoetrope (called a kinescope in this display) is a spinning,
slotted cylinder with filmstrip animation inside. Spinning
it produces an animated motion effect - a precursor to
today's film projectors.
