Description:
Through this computer program the visitor is able to explore
the main aspects of a geographic information system, or
GIS. The principal activity is zooming in and out on a
map of the USA. The response is very fast but the resolution
is rough. Three locations however have a very detailed
map of streets overlaid at high zoom. Visitors can also
turn layers on and off, an important characteristic of
GIS systems. For the inquisitive visitor more maps are
available for viewing, including a raster based map. An
overview presentation about GIS is also available. The
program has been designed to allow for future enhancements
through the addition of more map options. When no activity
is sensed from the visitor the program reverts to an attract
loop showing different map examples. Any movement of the
trackball or pressing the pushbutton will bring up the
instruction page prior to the main map screen.
