Experience: Packing a canoe with supplies, trade goods,
furs and people is more complicated than you might think.
You need to consider the weight and priority of bundles,
the location of the crew, and the stability of the canoe:
its "tippiness." Voyageurs would have taken
the type of water into account as well. In rough water,
canoes were weighted more heavily in the stern to allow
the bow to rise up and over rapids and waves.
The
visitor is asked to pack 12 Voyageurs figures and all
their gear into a canoe. When done they can lift a flap
and see a photo of what it looks like when packed correctly.
Every few minutes the canoe will tip over and the pieces
will be dumped out so that another visitor can try.
