Exhibit:
"Power
Saver" Interactive Exhibit
Venue: Trade Shows, 10 each year since 1993
Location: British Columbia, Canada
Date: May, 1993
Client: Exposystems Inc.
Contributors: Mystus Interactus, Exposystems (graphics,
housing)
Client's
Requirements: B.C. Hydro wished to have a public interest
display at their trade show booth that was informative,
entertaining and captivating. The exhibit was to be an
interactive kiosk dealing with energy consumption in the
home. The exhibit had to be easily portable and quick
to assemble. The completed exhibit allowed the visitor
to select a common home appliance. The appliance would
then light up in the graphics, a stunning red "expense
thermometer" would rise to the yearly dollar value
and the actual amount would be displayed numerically in
3" digits. The cycle time for each appliance was
about 10 seconds. Typically visitors try most of the appliances.
Fulfillment
by Mystus: B.C. Hydro organizers were unable to find
anyone in British Columbia equal to the task. From their
office in Vancouver a directive to find a qualified supplier
of custom interactive electronic components was issued
to all locations of the Exposystems corporation. Mystus
Interactus was contacted in Toronto and subsequently awarded
the contract based on their experience developing similar
exhibits for museums. LED lighting was used for the backlights
because they are extremely rugged, turn on instantly and
virtually never burn out. All electronics were custom
produced by Mystus with a microcomputer board orchestrating
the responses.
Interesting
Features: The control console and graphics panels
were connected via an infrared communications link - no
wires!
